Role
- The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) testing in support of SICPA’s fuel marking program in Azerbaijan. The role ensures accurate laboratory analysis, proper sample handling, instrument reliability, and timely reporting of test results. The position contributes directly to the integrity, compliance, and effectiveness of the petroleum marking system.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations & Testing
- Receive, log, and properly identify QA/QC fuel samples.
- Apply approved sampling and testing procedures in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Verify environmental conditions required for accurate laboratory testing.
- Perform analytical testing related to the fuel marking program.
- Ensure proper handling and controlled storage of QA/QC samples.
- Record and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
Quality Control & Instrument Management
- Conduct routine checks to ensure analytical instruments are functioning properly.
- Perform preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments in accordance with internal guidelines.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunction or deviation.
- Maintain accurate records of testing activities and instrument status.
- Report fuel marker inventory data as required.
Laboratory Maintenance & Compliance
- Ensure daily cleaning and proper maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment.
- Maintain laboratory organization and compliance with safety standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to SICPA Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies.
- Follow all internal controls and documentation procedures to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare laboratory reports and submit results to the relevant operational or management teams.
- Immediately report irregular findings, deviations, or non-conformities.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory processes and internal procedures.
Profile
- Secondary school diploma or technical diploma in chemistry, laboratory sciences, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of professional experience in a laboratory or industrial environment.
- Experience in the chemical, petroleum, or Oil & Gas sector is an advantage.
- Basic understanding of analytical testing methods and laboratory equipment.
- Basic mathematical skills for calculations and data recording.
- Fluent in Azerbaijani; working knowledge of English is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Quality- and results-oriented mindset.
- Organized, structured, and methodical approach.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
