SPE Annual Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition

On behalf of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Conference Executive and Technical Programme Committees, we take great pleasure in announcing the SPE Annual Caspian Technical Conference and Exhibition held 1–3 November 2017, in Baku, Azerbaijan.

This year’s conference theme “Chasing the Margins” will focus on the current market conditions facing the oil and gas industry, both globally and on a local level.  Now that oil prices seem to have stopped falling, confidence in the oil and gas industry has as well. It’s still much lower than it was before the price bust of 2014, but industry players at least appear to have a more stable attitude about surviving in such an environment. The velocity and magnitude of the oil price volatility pushed the industry to shift focus from “chasing barrels” towards “chasing efficiency” to enhance value of the ultimate products. Undoubtedly, the modernisation of the industry, collaboration between oil operators, contractors, service providers and governments, and an increased focus on local content in running businesses have played an invaluable role in efficiency improvement and adaptation to new realities.
